I've been waiting months to find this dresser!

So when Justin & I got married in October we didnt really have much furniture.  We started by making our own headboard...and went to target for a quick cheap dresser... Well lets just say *CHEAP* was the only way to describe the dresser we brought home.  Justin hated it from day 1 because it came in a million pieces he had to put together--but then seeing ever drawer break within 2 weeks, he really hated it!.  So my sweet dad bought us a nice new dresser for christmas--but i needed a chest of drawers to match.  So for months I stalked craigslist, the good will store and the salvation army store.. no luck.  UNTILL a few weeks ago the goodwill store had EXACTLY what I needed.. and for only 25$!

Sorry I forgot to take pics before I started sanding ( which i HATE more than anything in the world!)  But after some sanding, painting, and destressing I ended up with...
and the finished chest of drawers...

I still want to get some cute new handles for it, but even at target they are 14$ for only 4... and i need 10 so for now ill just stick with these!

Mailbox Number Sign

Being a nurse I am very lucky in the sense that I get 8 straight days off every months, not to mention the 1 or 2 days I get off every week betweek the 3 night stretch I work.  As fun as the 8 days seems, with nothing to do theres really only a few options, spend money shopping, be lazy (which I am in no way able to do), or my favorite go to home depot & thrift stores and find ideas of stuff to do.  During my last 8 days I decided I wanted to make more decor stuff for our new place.  I walked around home depot for a while untill I came to the isle with the mailbox numbers.  I wasnt really sure what I wanted to do but I figured I would come up with something.

I ended up screwing the numbers into a piece of wood that I had painted colors that match our room.  The numbers are our wedding date! I loved the way it turned out and decided to paint some canvases to match!

Kitchen Table

So before Justin and I got married I started stressing out about furniture.  Im sure everyone does becuase its crazy to think after you get married and your own place you obviously are going to need EVERY room...and you cant take all of your parents! ha! So my best friend Rachel happened to be moving and no longer needed her Kitchen table- PERFECT!  The tabel was just a wood table with 4 upholstered chairs.  Now I am not really big into anything that looks wooden (or really brown in general).  So I decided we could paint it black and re-fabric the chairs my favorite color teal.  Well since we had to keep the table at my dads so we could redo it in his garage Justin and my dad really ended up doing more work on the table than I did.  The end product I loved and has worked great so far!!

Well, after only 4 months I changed my mind.  I decided I wanted the kitchen to have other colors also and the black and teal made that kinda hard.  So of course I decided to just redo the table.  Only this time Justin didnt want to help so much.  So for the past few weeks I have been sanding, stripping, (and drinking) away at this table.  Which let me tell you is not so fun in the recent 30 degree weather!

I couldnt really decide what colors I wanted to use, mainly because the Crate & Barrell kitchen decor that sparked this whole idea was all different colors.  SO i decided to have fun with it.  See the end product below.  I really am not too happy with it and will more than likely end up changing my mind about the chairs, but for now it will have to do,  I am so sick of sanding!!

Thrift store mirror

So a few weeks ago I decided I wanted to start doing more furniture decorating.  My husband Justin said i should start with something small so I would finish it before I decided to start on something else.  Enter the Salvation Army store.  I LOVE this place! They have the best furniture to redo and alot of times when you go in there all the furniture is an extra 50% off.  I found this mirror and decided it would be fun and had potential.
I started off just sanding it down and then decided to paint it white.  I wanted to use the tile things you can get from hobby lobby to help decorate the top but they are like 5$ for a small pack.. and at that price the mirror would have ended up costing more than I wanted to spend!

So after a little while it finally hit me.   I could use ANY tiles.  Thats when I decided to go to Lowes and get the tiles.  I love the way this mirror ended up-- the only problem is its VERY heavy & the townhome we are renting may not have the walls to hold it up.. and I dont really wanna find out the hard way.  So for now i have it in the living room leaning on the wall.

Have a good rest of the weekend!

So I decided to start a blog...

I have to clue what made me finally give in and start a blog... I have been making fun of my best friend Alissa for months after starting her's (see picture below and you can go to her blog by clicking here)

and then finally after snooping around and becoming addicted to keeping up with blogs of people I dont know I just gave in.  Well actually, I think part of it has to do with being bored.  My Husband, Justin has been in the hospital since last Thursday and the whole time Ive just been sitting in his room on my computer looking at blogs for craft Ideas! (Hes been sleeping most of the time.. I didnt mean Ive not been helping with him too!! :) )

So anyways, about me- My name is Brandi King, I recently graduated from nursing school, got a job, and married the most amazing person ever!  Justin & I live in Alabama with our dog, Turner (who I am just a little obsessed with) and are having such a fun time getting our life together started.  With that said, We are doing that on a newleywed budget.. That is where this blog comes in!  It seems there are so many creative people with such fun ideas to share that decorating our new home will not be hard at all, actually it will be fun.  I am slightly addicted to going through the thrift stores and such looking for furniture or other craft ideas I can redo for our house.  I hope I am able to figure our this whole blog thing so if anyone has any pointers/ suggestions please let me know.
